The DEMO Festival 2027: A Global Celebration of Motion Design
The DEMO Festival is back, and it's bigger and better than ever! This year, the festival is taking over public screens in 15 cities across the globe, transforming everyday spaces into a vibrant showcase of motion design. From Amsterdam to Tokyo, millions of people will experience the magic of motion design in a 24-hour exhibition of cutting-edge visuals.
What makes DEMO unique is its non-commercial, curated format. For one day, advertising spaces are replaced with experimental, artistic, and playful digital works, bringing motion design directly into daily life. This year, digital-out-of-home partners like Global, blowUP media, Adtrackmedia, Warexpo, and NEORT are lending their support by offering ad-free screen space for the festival, ensuring a powerful and coordinated presence.
But the real stars of the show are the motion designers themselves. DEMO's open call invites designers from all backgrounds and levels of experience to submit their work, whether they're just starting out or have been in the game for decades. Last year, the festival received over 5,000 submissions from nearly 2,000 designers across 90 countries, showcasing the growing relevance and diversity of motion design.
The selected works are curated by a team of experts, including Liza Enebeis, Connor Campbell, Tim Rodenbröker, Koos Breen, and Yonk. Each edition is constructed around thematic categories that highlight trends, experimentation, and new developments in motion design. From Stranger Things to Algorithmic Adventures, these themes provide a framework for exploring the latest and greatest in the world of motion design.
Beyond the public screens, DEMO also functions as a platform for exchange and learning. The festival hub at Amsterdam Central Station hosts talks, workshops, and guided tours, bringing together designers, studios, and the public to reflect on the future of motion design and its role in public space. As Liza Enebeis told It's Nice That, DEMO is about celebrating the work, not competing. It's a collective effort to create the best exhibition, where emerging and established designers alike can showcase their talent.
So, if you're a motion designer, now is your chance to shine. Submit your work to DEMO Festival 2027 and be part of a global celebration of creativity and innovation. Who knows, your work might just be the next big thing in motion design!
